Beginners Guide to Canine Massage

During this 1 Day Workshop you will learn how to give your dog a 40 minute Swedish massage at home, as well as gain an insight into what is going on under their skin, and how to spot the early signs of muscular discomfort and injury. It is the perfect introduction into how dog massage can significantly benefit your best friends health and is a great way to spend time with your dog.
When you book please let me know a little about your dog such as health concerns, special requirements and if they are sport or working dog. I like to know a little about who we will be working with on the day.
The workshop runs from 9.30am to 4.30pm. There will be breaks throughout the day for your dog to stretch their legs. Don’t worry, your dog is not expected to lie still all day. We will work with wriggling dogs with adaptations and tips on how to work with your dog.
You will learn to help your dog’s mobility, movement, comfort and longevity:
- The benefits of massage – why should I massage my dog? When and how it is of benefit
- What’s underneath your dog’s skin – Find bony landmarks and main muscle groups
- Fundamental massage techniques you can use with your dog – you will be coached through how and where to apply these techniques
- Passive Movement – an amazing technique that helps to promote your dog’s mobility
- Put it all together into a massage routine which you will perform under guidance and have written down to take away with you
You will be working with your dog under my guidance to ensure you are confident and able to perform these professional massage techniques at home safely and correctly so you can benefit your dogs health for years to come.
Dogs
You must bring a dog with you for you to work with on the workshop.
Don’t worry, dogs are not expected
to instantly settle and remain still for the whole day. We will discuss setting up the environment and adaptions. They don’t have to lie flat at all times to massage, we will work with them.
I can work with dogs who don’t like to get too close to others so if your dog has any particular requirements please let me know and we can work together to make the day comfortable and safe for you both. However do consider that there will be other dogs in the room and space is limited to the size of the hall. I want for you to have a relaxing and enjoyable day and so if you dog is not comfortable in a group environment you may be better attending one of my online courses to learn in the comfort of your own home (the content is the same).
All dogs must be kept under close control and on a lead for the safety and enjoyment of all participants.
