RESET AND RECONNECT

Reducing stress at both ends of the lead

Have you ever seen that your dog behaves differently when you are excited? or worried? or stressed? Even when they aren’t involved in what causes that emotion.

If you have then you’ve seen how your dog is reacting to your emotion. This is wonderful when we are excited but not so useful when we are both stressed or worried and those feelings escalate between us. Reset and Reconnect workshops will give you the tools to be more aware and more in control of those emotional reactions in both yourself and your dog so you can both break that cycle and reset together.

This is a practical four week course for sighthound owners who want a calmer, more connected dog and the tools to bounce back after a challenge to achieve it. This isn’t about fixing or training your dog but resetting both your systems with practical tools.

It has been created as a collaboration between Sam Courtnell, who is a Clinical Canine Massage Therapist and HeartMath Coach, and Clare Ware, a Sighthound Specialist Dog Trainer. Both bring their own perspective which comes together to create this unique course helping dog owners to manage their own and their dog’s stress and emotions in ways that can be used in real life.

During this workshop you will learn:

  • How your emotions and physiology travel down the lead and how to influence what you send
  • Early signs of stress in your dog and in you
  • HeartMath breathing and coherence techniques that take 60 seconds
  • Biofeedback technology to train your own nervous system (HRV monitor comes free with this course)

You will leave with a portable toolkit for handling real-life moments together.

Questions you need to know the answers to before booking

Is this course for me?

This course is for people who want everyday tools they can use themselves and are prepared to reflect on their own reactions and practice to do that. These tools aren’t difficult but they do take practice. You will have homework! (But don’t worry, we won’t put anyone on the spot and your reflections can stay private).

It’s important that we also say what this course is not. It is not a cure for mental health issues, serious dog training issues or behavioural issues. It can help alongside your other solutions but it is not the solution on it’s own. If you are unsure if this is the course for you, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to chat about it.

I don’t have a sighthound, can I join in?

Although dogs aren’t directly involved in the sessions, these are sighthound specific with Sam and Clare co-hosting. These will focus on the specific behaviours and challenges of sighthounds.

Sam will be providing courses for all dogs shortly so please email to be informed of the next dates – Sa*@*******************co.uk

What do I need for the session?

You won’t need much other than yourself and a quiet place. If you want to take advantage of the free biofeedback technology during the sessions you’ll need a smartphone with plenty of charge, or that is plugged in.

The sessions will be run over zoom so you’ll also need a device with a camera and microphone so you can participate.

How does it work?

The course runs over 4 weekly sessions which are all run live online so very convenient for you to attend.

We will be using Zoom so you can see, hear and interact with us and other participants. If you aren’t a whizz at Zoom don’t worry, we can help you. We’ll send you a link before the course starts.

You will have a mix of talks, discussions, exercises and you will have exercises to practice at home to help you observe and solidify the practices. Don’t worry, no one will be marking your homework!

Can I join from outside of the UK?

For this course we can unfortunately only cater for participants in the UK however we hope that future courses will be available to everyone so please get in touch if you would like to join us and we’ll let you know when that’s possible.
